Colon Cancer Prevention Starts Here: Colonoscopy Self-Scheduling in Lincoln, Nebraska
We’re excited to introduce self-scheduling for colonoscopy here in Lincoln. Gastroenterology Specialties, the Lincoln Endoscopy Center, and Lincoln Digestive Health Center are offering this new option to make it easier than ever to schedule this cancer screening and preventative procedure without waiting for an office visit. From the convenience of your home, you can now pick a date and time—up to six months in advance—that works best for you.
Common questions about self-scheduling:
Are all patients eligible for self-scheduling?
Most patients will be eligible to self-schedule routine screening exams. However, certain health conditions (such as heart or lung disease, blood thinners, or prior surgical history) may require a quick discussion with our office before scheduling. If you don’t qualify for self-scheduling, we’ll make it just as easy to get your procedure scheduled.
Are all appointments open for self-scheduling?
Not yet. During the early phase of this roll-out, we’re reserving a limited number of appointments each day for self-scheduling patients. We offer morning and afternoon procedure times five days a week. If you don’t see a time that works for you, please call our office for additional options.
How soon can I schedule?
Self-scheduling is available for procedures 4–6 weeks from now. If you’d like an earlier appointment, please call our office — sooner openings are available but require staff scheduling at this time.
Is my colonoscopy covered by insurance?
Yes. For most patients, screening colonoscopy is considered preventive care and is covered at 100% by insurance.
Average-risk patients: coverage generally starts at age 45.
Patients with a family history: coverage may begin as early as age 40, or younger depending on specific history.
Do I need a referral from my primary care provider?
In most cases, no referral is required. If your insurance does require one, our team will work with your PCP to make sure it’s completed. Don’t have a PCP? We can still help arrange the referral so you don’t have to delay your screening.
Can I self-schedule if I had a positive stool-based test (like Cologuard or FIT)?
Yes! If your stool test came back positive, you can use self-scheduling to book your follow-up colonoscopy. A positive test means there’s a higher chance of finding polyps or cancer, so it’s very important not to delay. If you qualify for self-scheduling, you’ll be able to select a convenient date and time. If anything in your health history needs special attention, our office will reach out to review the details before your procedure.
Where will my procedure be done?
If you qualify for self-scheduling, your procedure will be at either Lincoln Digestive Health Center (LDHC) or Lincoln Endoscopy Center (LEC).
Who will perform my colonoscopy?
You’ll be scheduled with one of the 14 board-certified gastroenterologists at Gastroenterology Specialties, all of whom exceed national quality benchmarks.
Can I request a specific doctor?
Yes. If you’d like a specific physician, please call our office directly at 402-465-4545 and we’ll schedule you.
